The Bob-a-lot is a type of toy that stimulates the mind and let’s you think about how to get the treats inside.
Treats are put in through the lid and come out via 2 small holes in the side and top.
You have to push it over with your paws or nose but it bobs back up again!!
The 2 holes are adjustable to make it easier or harder or allow for bigger or smaller treats.
The lid can be left on so treats only come out bottom

Mum did find the holes quite difficult to close once opened fully and had to get a nail behind and was quite tough. So will be staying at midway for now.
The top hole was easier as turns.

We used our kibble as well as some larger biscuits. We had to split the larger biscuits in half to fit in. To be sure we opened the gap to how we wanted and tested the biscuit through the gap. (See last photo)

How easy to play with is it
I’m a bit funny with toys like this having never had toys before but I was interested as soon as it came.
Mum put the treats in it and put it on the floor for me. I was a bit confused at first but mum pushed it over a few times allowing a treat to come out and I copied her. I hit it with my paws and bashed with my nose.
I could not pick it up so had to think a lot about how I could do it.

How tough is it
It seems pretty tough. It’s been bashed on the floor and Iv tryed to chew it but struggled. I am known for picking up and carrying stuff around but couldn’t. It is rigid plastic and round. The only bit you could grab is the lid area which screws on quite right. We removed the ribbon that allows the humans to carry it around for safety incase I chewed and swallowed it.
The gaps that allow treats to come out are not big enough to get teeth in. So looks like it could last.

Overall
It looks a good toy and is simple to learn. Maybe not suitable for highly intelligent dogs such as collies who would empty it in seconds!!
We will be using it at times mum has to concentrate doing things and needs us occupied but probably not for long periods as I could get frustrated and leave it if I couldn’t get the treats after a bit.
However as it was a struggle opening and closing the holes we would have to mark it down as some people may struggle a lot.

ruffwear harness

Earlier this month mum decided I needed a more secure harness so she can grab me easily and to use on our group walks that involve lots of stiles to lift me over. We had a look at a few and after chatting to people we decided to try out the ruffwear webmaster harness

We got our harness from our friends at http://www.barksandbunnies.co.uk as they had a sale on but they are available from most big online stores or direct from http://www.ruffwear.co.uk. The rrp is £59.99

After measuring we decided to get their medium size. We were a bit confused with sizing as had looked at the wrong size guide but the people at ruffwear were helpful and made sure we choose a correct size. We could have fit in the small but medium gives extra room for a coat or if I get fat!!

We choose the color red currant but it is also available in twilight grey.

Review

Fit- it went on well although fiddly to do all the initial adjustments. We viewed the sizing video on YouTube – search ruffwear webmaster fitting. We were initially concerned the harness was loose before we were advised there was a bit of elastic near the back to allow comfort when laying down. We got it to quite tight but not too tight and I could still walk and lay down.

It fully adjusts to accept both Stella and daisy as well. Daisy has a skinny body but deep chest and is a houdini dog as well as a puller but after an initial struggle managed to go for a walk in it without any hassle. Stella has a chunky body so needs a tighter front strap but looser round back end. She is at the largest end of medium so would require large size.

Comfort

Think was quite comfy. We went for many walks and didn’t rub or make me move funny at all. I went to sleep in it even whern it was wet.we did climbing, running, swimming and rolling in it without any fuss

Walking

Easy to walk in. The lead clips to a sturdy ring on back that is out their way so won’t trip up. Handle can be held for when walking past items mum not want me to eat 😦 or if people come past on a small track.

Lifting

One of the main reasons we choose the webmaster is due to abuse as a puppy I have a bad back which means I can’t jump and climb very well. Many of our walks involve stiles where I get distressed seeing the other dogs jump over leaving me but I’m quite heavy to pick up by collar and bottom so we use the handle to lift me over easily.

So far we haven’t done any hard stiles that require heavy or difficult handling

The harness dries quite quickly. We tested during a 4hr walk just after a thunderstorm so got very wet. Underneath of harness was fairly dry and dried quick once took off. The only thing mum doesn’t like is it attracts hair easily. The photo below was after the trials fitting and it wouldn’t come off

Overall we would reccomend to friends and family as is a good quality harness however it is quite expensive if you just want to use it for a normal harness. But if you go hiking or need a harness because of mobility issues or injury then it is ideal.

We will be trying out the new ruffwear basic harness whern it comes out. This is netter suited if you want a good quality walking harness without the huge price so keep watch!!

Charlie and derek biskits

Today I got my biskit order from Charlie and Derek dog treats. Came carefully packaged in a box with lots of bubble wrap and a special treat for mum wrapped up too. And a selection of samples for you to taste other flavors or pass onto your friends.
All treats are in cellophane packets tied with pretty coloured ribbons- each treat has its own colour and also include a gift tag if you want to give as a gift.

My flavors this month are banana and carrot flapjacks, bacon egg and cheese biskits and mackerel oaties.

My favorite are the mackerel oaties as I love fish.they taste very fishy and have a bit of smell but not too strong. Mum can have them in her pocket without pocket getting stinky too. They are perfect sizes for going to the park with and for training.

Banana and carrot flapjacks are lovely with a bit of sweetness added with honey. I only get these as special treat. Just like most of the other treats in the range these can be carried in pocket without stinking or crumbling but can be broken in half easily for small dogs although perfect size for all.unfortunately mum also likes these ones 😦

The bacon egg and cheese is a new flavor inspired by our friend Bella who loves bacon. You can smell all the flavors and I picked this one most times in a treat chowing test. The texture is great and doesn’t crumble.

All treats have natural ingredients and even humans can eat if they really wanted to although they are for us dogs. Each order includes a human biskit. Mum has had a gingernut, a shortbread and a choc shortbread biskit and hasn’t lasted long enough to take pic of.

All treats including wheat-free treats and gift baskets can be found at http://www.charlieandderekdogtreats.co.uk for very reasonable prices. They are also on twitter @Charlie__Derek and you can talk to them about their biskits

Harnesslead review

We recently won a harnesslead in a giveaway and have decided to review it after testing it as it is a new product for us. Mum thinks it’s great

What is the harnesslead and where can I get it.
The harnesslead is a clever idea that gives you a harness, slip lead and fixed lead all in 1lead.
Currently only sold in the USA but they do ship to the UK. Available from their website harnesslead.com

How much is it?
We won ours in a free giveaway so didnot cost us anything except import vat. The harness lead is currently $27 and around $6-10 for us postage and $25 for UK postage not including any import tax.we paid around £3 tax plus royal mail handling fee of £8

What is it made from?
The harnesslead is made from soft polypropylene rope in 5different colours. This rope is soft and doesn’t rub or tangle and can stand being dragged on ground.

How does it work?
To use as a slip lead the collar section goes over head and has 2 coloured knots that slide to enable it to open or close the amount you want.
To make the fixed collar you just slide the knots so the rope cannot loosen or tighten and stays in place.
For the harness the collar section goes over head loosely to shoulders and the lead passed under the tummy and round back the the special hole near the neck and a rubber stopper moved to tighten.this allows the lead to tighten if dog pulls and loosen again.
Videos are available on the website and on youtube for proper instructions on fitting

Will I fit my dog?
The harnesslead is designed to fit all size dogs.there is a smaller version available for the smaller breeds to prevent a long lead but the main one can fit from the smallest to the biggest.has been tested by us on a 15kg lurcher,25kg lab and 38kg mastiff mix without any problems and no choking or escaping although the lead is quite long but can be shortened using a carabiner clip to aattach handle to ring near neck

Good points
-Fits all sizes
-prevents pulling
-Slip lead doesn’t choke
-Hard to escape harness as tightens
-Easy to fit on dog
-Easy to carry when off dog
-Good value if multiple dog house
-squeezes out when wet and doesn’t get all crusty or tangle
-soft on dog and on human hands

Bad points
-Lead has to trail on floor if dog has free run but needs harness kept on causing it to get muddy and wet
– bit awkward if dog moving about while fitting
-Lead is a bit long on our smallest dog when not clipped to neck ring
-Knots are bit stiff to move to aadjust sizing
– ermm, can’t find any others just yet
