The items were shipped in the bark bunnies forage box, full of hay, just like all orders.
The forage box can be used as an extra toy, hunt for treats in the hay or just to make a mess!

The box
The box contained 7items, 4 toys and 3 treats. All high quality.
Items were all a surprise, hand picked by albie, the companies golden retriever, and his humans.
Items were packed well and nothing was damaged at all.

Contents
We received in our parcel-
– JW hol-ee roller Rrp £5.99
This is a tough rubber ball that is squishy and safe. I like to run with my balls so this allows me to still breath and pant and won’t hurt my jaw as can open and close my mouth. We had a look at this ball before on the site but was unsure of getting it. Also easy for the humans to carry as can squish in bag

IMG_2371

IMG_2365

– giggle ball. Rrp £3.85
We have had this before from a different place and is a favourite. It’s a plush pink ball that giggles when thrown around or stood on. It’s for inside use really as doesn’t like getting wet. My last one lasted a long time even with my sister chewing it

IMG_2363

– gor pets tug rope. Rrp £2.99
Not one of my favourites out all the items. I play with rope tugs sometimes if another dog playing. The one provided is for large dogs and quite long and heavy. Would suit most larger breeds and seems tough.

IMG_2369

-Kong dodo Rrp £7.49
This was a nice surprise item. We love long stuff. Especially the soft toys. The dodo has a soft outer skin with 2 squeak balls inside. It’s soft enough to carry but unlikely to break if I chewed or tugged. It’s not indestructible tho but I’m good with toys. We received the purple dodo. Think this will be my favourite item

IMG_2368

Treats
Antos Cerea hedgehog chew. Rrp £1.89
This was first thing out the box. Iv had them before and only get as special treat. Similar texture to dentastick and are chewy. Made from vegetable so good for you.

IMG_2362

IMG_2356

Natures menu treats – beef and lamb Rrp £1.69 each
We got 2 packs of natures menu treats. These are high quality and 95% meat. Again we only get these as a treat due to price so wouldn’t have bought ourselves. I love the lamb ones so will share the beef.
I have no allergies but I’m sure if you let them know of anything you can’t have them they would make sure any treats are suitable.

We also spoke to albie on Twitter to get more info and for him to find out what sort of stuff I like to make sure my box was suitable.

Overall
– the box Rrp was £25.60 if bought separately.
– it is a good box as a surprise gift for birthday or special occasion but we would not get a regular order. We will probably try one of the other boxes next.
– 7 items altogether. Higher amount than many subscription boxes
– all high quality items. No cheap toys that will break easily.
– excellent customer service- they will try to ensure all items suitable for your dogs requirements.
– nice mix of toys and treats.
– good range of toys, not just one sort but received balls, plush and rope items
– treats suitable for most- all natural/safe ingredients with no chemicals.
– all items are full size complete with tags. No sample sized items!! And will receive large size items if in large dog box- so no more getting tiny dog toys for me!!

Review: starmark Bob-a-lot

We received a large starmark Bob-a-lot from petshopbowl to review. All opinions are my own
Available from
pet shop bowl
£14.24 at time of review

2015/01/img_1556.jpg

The Bob-a-lot is a type of toy that stimulates the mind and let’s you think about how to get the treats inside.
Treats are put in through the lid and come out via 2 small holes in the side and top.
You have to push it over with your paws or nose but it bobs back up again!!
The 2 holes are adjustable to make it easier or harder or allow for bigger or smaller treats.
The lid can be left on so treats only come out bottom

2015/01/img_1566.jpg

2015/01/img_1568.jpg

2015/01/img_1569.jpg</a

2015/01/img_1567.jpg

Mum did find the holes quite difficult to close once opened fully and had to get a nail behind and was quite tough. So will be staying at midway for now.
The top hole was easier as turns.

We used our kibble as well as some larger biscuits. We had to split the larger biscuits in half to fit in. To be sure we opened the gap to how we wanted and tested the biscuit through the gap. (See last photo)

How easy to play with is it
I’m a bit funny with toys like this having never had toys before but I was interested as soon as it came.
Mum put the treats in it and put it on the floor for me. I was a bit confused at first but mum pushed it over a few times allowing a treat to come out and I copied her. I hit it with my paws and bashed with my nose.
I could not pick it up so had to think a lot about how I could do it.

2015/01/img_1557.jpg

2015/01/img_1565.jpg

2015/01/img_1559.jpg

How tough is it
It seems pretty tough. It’s been bashed on the floor and Iv tryed to chew it but struggled. I am known for picking up and carrying stuff around but couldn’t. It is rigid plastic and round. The only bit you could grab is the lid area which screws on quite right. We removed the ribbon that allows the humans to carry it around for safety incase I chewed and swallowed it.
The gaps that allow treats to come out are not big enough to get teeth in. So looks like it could last.

Overall
It looks a good toy and is simple to learn. Maybe not suitable for highly intelligent dogs such as collies who would empty it in seconds!!
We will be using it at times mum has to concentrate doing things and needs us occupied but probably not for long periods as I could get frustrated and leave it if I couldn’t get the treats after a bit.
However as it was a struggle opening and closing the holes we would have to mark it down as some people may struggle a lot.

ruffwear harness

Earlier this month mum decided I needed a more secure harness so she can grab me easily and to use on our group walks that involve lots of stiles to lift me over. We had a look at a few and after chatting to people we decided to try out the ruffwear webmaster harness

IMG_94684654257206

We got our harness from our friends at http://www.barksandbunnies.co.uk as they had a sale on but they are available from most big online stores or direct from http://www.ruffwear.co.uk. The rrp is £59.99

After measuring we decided to get their medium size. We were a bit confused with sizing as had looked at the wrong size guide but the people at ruffwear were helpful and made sure we choose a correct size. We could have fit in the small but medium gives extra room for a coat or if I get fat!!

Screenshot_2014-07-21-17-16-42

We choose the color red currant but it is also available in twilight grey.

Features

Ruffwear describes this harness as

supportive multi use harness ideal for hiking scrambling rehabilitation and mobility assistance

– features efficient easy clip buckles to keep straps in place

-anatomical design for controlled and comfortable lifting and load dispersion

– 5 points of adjustment for customised fit

– 3M scotchlite reflective trim

– secure design for Houdini dogs

– foam padded chest and straps for comfort

– 2 attachment points

Review

Fit- it went on well although fiddly to do all the initial adjustments. We viewed the sizing video on YouTube – search ruffwear webmaster fitting. We were initially concerned the harness was loose before we were advised there was a bit of elastic near the back to allow comfort when laying down. We got it to quite tight but not too tight and I could still walk and lay down.

It fully adjusts to accept both Stella and daisy as well. Daisy has a skinny body but deep chest and is a houdini dog as well as a puller but after an initial struggle managed to go for a walk in it without any hassle. Stella has a chunky body so needs a tighter front strap but looser round back end. She is at the largest end of medium so would require large size.

IMG_94639933170127

Comfort

Think was quite comfy. We went for many walks and didn’t rub or make me move funny at all. I went to sleep in it even whern it was wet.we did climbing, running, swimming and rolling in it without any fuss

Walking

Easy to walk in. The lead clips to a sturdy ring on back that is out their way so won’t trip up. Handle can be held for when walking past items mum not want me to eat 😦 or if people come past on a small track.

Lifting

One of the main reasons we choose the webmaster is due to abuse as a puppy I have a bad back which means I can’t jump and climb very well. Many of our walks involve stiles where I get distressed seeing the other dogs jump over leaving me but I’m quite heavy to pick up by collar and bottom so we use the handle to lift me over easily.

So far we haven’t done any hard stiles that require heavy or difficult handling

IMG_94802249913905

The harness dries quite quickly. We tested during a 4hr walk just after a thunderstorm so got very wet. Underneath of harness was fairly dry and dried quick once took off. The only thing mum doesn’t like is it attracts hair easily. The photo below was after the trials fitting and it wouldn’t come off

IMG_94677017565052

IMG_94629640451433 IMG_94625470868356

Overall we would reccomend to friends and family as is a good quality harness however it is quite expensive if you just want to use it for a normal harness. But if you go hiking or need a harness because of mobility issues or injury then it is ideal.

We will be trying out the new ruffwear basic harness whern it comes out. This is netter suited if you want a good quality walking harness without the huge price so keep watch!!

coachies lick treat review

This week we have been given 2 coachies lick treats to review. There is 1 bacon flavour and 1 chicken flavour.

These have been provided for us by www.monsterpetsupplies.co.uk

What is it?

Coachies lick treats are a small bottle filled with chicken or bacon flavored syrup. At the top of the bottle there is a small ball that you lick. As you lick the ball rolls round so each lick there is always a tasty treat. The bottle does not leak unless you squeeze it hard without lid on. So pretty safe!!

What’s in the bottle?

Coachies lick treat contains around 500 licks per 50ml bottle. There is 1 calorie per 8licks.

Both flavours contain chicken, brewers yeast, glucose, green tea extract And vitamin E. The bacon flavour also contains natural bacon flavouring.

What can I use it for?

The bottle is perfect for putting in your pocket for a treat when out and about, it is also good for all types of training or situations where a quick and tasty reward is needed. It is silent so no more rustling packets during training sessions and disturbing dog.

We have been using for working on heelwork as the bottle fits in your hand well. We have also used for recall as the smell is very attractive to dogs.

Taste test

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cFqJMIYcUJE

Smell

The smell is strong to begin with to the human nose but quickly becomes unnoticable. Both chicken and bacon smell is non- offensive and smells like most chicken or bacon flavoured items. The smell attracted the dogs as soon as lid was off- even Stella who was asleep. It cannot be smelled once the lid is on.

Taste

Lucy went mad when it came to being allowed to lick. We made her do a bit of training first tho!! Stella sniffed it but wasn’t sure what to do as she’s not a very licky dog.

Overall this is a great treat for a dog that likes licking and ideal for training dogs who get distracted by rustling of treat packets. Its also low calorie so good for longer sessions.

We give it 8/10.

We would like to see more flavours eventually. We knocked off a point as it isn’t suitable for dogs who aren’t naturally licky or unsure about licking.

Collar caddy review

week we are testing the collar caddy by pick it up.
http://www.pick-it-up.co.uk

image

It is a collar with 4special compartments allowing dogs to carry their own stuff.

We are testing the large size for dogs 20kg+ with neck 17″+.

image

What is included:
Collar caddy with high quality flat buckle collar.

image

2 x drinks bottles each holding around 1/3 glass of water.suitable for a normal walk but will need refilling or extra bottles if longer walk or warm weather.they have their own compartment in the caddy

image

image

10x disposable drinks trays to be used with the bottle for a drink.they unfold easily and can fit 1-2 in caddy but small enough for your pocket.will last 1walk but designed to be thrown away after

image

20x large good quality poo bags. Folded up ready to pop in caddy.fits 2-4 depending on other stuff being carried. Can also use your own if you fold them.

image

Emergency lead- lightweight nylon.tested on 26kg Labrador pulling towards food and is strong.fits neatly into compartment or in a pocket

Design
The large caddy is brown and gold so will fit in most dogs coloring without standing out too much.

The compartments are in 2 sections with a clip in middle that comes off to help.clean easily.the clip also helps caddy to bend and adjust to most dogs necks.

image

The caddy is easy to clean and will wash with warm water and dry easily.the collar is also washable.

The collar caddy can also be used with your own flat buckle collar as the collar supplied comes out easily and new collar slides in in 30secs.this allows dogs with a different neck size to the collar supplied can wear the caddy.below is our own collar

image

The compartments are not fully watertight if going swimming in river or heavy rain. It is recommended to have treats and drink trays in plastic bag.

image

Only small bag of treats can fit in compartment if carrying trays, bags and lead as well.slightly bigger bag or loose treats can fit in if not using both bottles or trays etc.

image

Took us a while to find a good way to fit everything in.we put a drinks tray and lead in one section.and pok bags and treats in the other side.this allows compartments to close properly.

image

An id tag can be attached to collar as normal and can also be written on in permanent marker on outside or a label.stuck inside in case of loss of dog.

image

I’m not bothered bout it round neck and have fallen asleep wearing it. It is not heavy or bulky and is curved so doesn’t dig in neck if I rest head on it

Pros
-Fits most dogs as can change collar
-Cleans quickly and easily
-Fits a lot of things in
-Not bulky or heavy

Cons
-Small waterbottles-need extra bottles on a bigger walk
-Although fits lots in, doesn’t fit more than 2-3poo bags and trays(some dogs do lots of poos)
-Not watertight in heavy rain or river(I like splashing in river)

Overall mum says she would buy another one and thinks it good quality item.

Charlie and derek biskits

Today I got my biskit order from Charlie and Derek dog treats. Came carefully packaged in a box with lots of bubble wrap and a special treat for mum wrapped up too. And a selection of samples for you to taste other flavors or pass onto your friends.
All treats are in cellophane packets tied with pretty coloured ribbons- each treat has its own colour and also include a gift tag if you want to give as a gift.

image

My flavors this month are banana and carrot flapjacks, bacon egg and cheese biskits and mackerel oaties.

My favorite are the mackerel oaties as I love fish.they taste very fishy and have a bit of smell but not too strong. Mum can have them in her pocket without pocket getting stinky too. They are perfect sizes for going to the park with and for training.

Banana and carrot flapjacks are lovely with a bit of sweetness added with honey. I only get these as special treat. Just like most of the other treats in the range these can be carried in pocket without stinking or crumbling but can be broken in half easily for small dogs although perfect size for all.unfortunately mum also likes these ones 😦

The bacon egg and cheese is a new flavor inspired by our friend Bella who loves bacon. You can smell all the flavors and I picked this one most times in a treat chowing test. The texture is great and doesn’t crumble.

All treats have natural ingredients and even humans can eat if they really wanted to although they are for us dogs. Each order includes a human biskit. Mum has had a gingernut, a shortbread and a choc shortbread biskit and hasn’t lasted long enough to take pic of.

All treats including wheat-free treats and gift baskets can be found at http://www.charlieandderekdogtreats.co.uk for very reasonable prices. They are also on twitter @Charlie__Derek and you can talk to them about their biskits

Harnesslead review

image

image

We recently won a harnesslead in a giveaway and have decided to review it after testing it as it is a new product for us. Mum thinks it’s great

What is the harnesslead and where can I get it.
The harnesslead is a clever idea that gives you a harness, slip lead and fixed lead all in 1lead.
Currently only sold in the USA but they do ship to the UK. Available from their website harnesslead.com

How much is it?
We won ours in a free giveaway so didnot cost us anything except import vat. The harness lead is currently $27 and around $6-10 for us postage and $25 for UK postage not including any import tax.we paid around £3 tax plus royal mail handling fee of £8

What is it made from?
The harnesslead is made from soft polypropylene rope in 5different colours. This rope is soft and doesn’t rub or tangle and can stand being dragged on ground.

How does it work?
To use as a slip lead the collar section goes over head and has 2 coloured knots that slide to enable it to open or close the amount you want.
To make the fixed collar you just slide the knots so the rope cannot loosen or tighten and stays in place.
For the harness the collar section goes over head loosely to shoulders and the lead passed under the tummy and round back the the special hole near the neck and a rubber stopper moved to tighten.this allows the lead to tighten if dog pulls and loosen again.
Videos are available on the website and on youtube for proper instructions on fitting

Will I fit my dog?
The harnesslead is designed to fit all size dogs.there is a smaller version available for the smaller breeds to prevent a long lead but the main one can fit from the smallest to the biggest.has been tested by us on a 15kg lurcher,25kg lab and 38kg mastiff mix without any problems and no choking or escaping although the lead is quite long but can be shortened using a carabiner clip to aattach handle to ring near neck

Good points
-Fits all sizes
-prevents pulling
-Slip lead doesn’t choke
-Hard to escape harness as tightens
-Easy to fit on dog
-Easy to carry when off dog
-Good value if multiple dog house
-squeezes out when wet and doesn’t get all crusty or tangle
-soft on dog and on human hands

Bad points
-Lead has to trail on floor if dog has free run but needs harness kept on causing it to get muddy and wet
– bit awkward if dog moving about while fitting
-Lead is a bit long on our smallest dog when not clipped to neck ring
-Knots are bit stiff to move to aadjust sizing
– ermm, can’t find any others just yet

More information can be found on their website, youtube and facebook by typing in harnesslead
